The Culinary Canvas

Back at the Broomhill Art Hotel in Devon, Fable Construction found themselves with a return ticket to creativity. This time, it wasn't bedrooms on the menu, but a full-blown restaurant refurb in the wing of this Edwardian mansion come boutique getaway.

The owners, clearly chuffed with Fable's earlier handiwork, had them back to turn a tired dining space into 'Canvas', a restaurant aiming to serve up culture alongside the local fare.

The lads thought they knew all the building's tricks, but the old girl had one more surprise up her sleeve - an original spring floor hidden beneath years of lackluster decor. A bit of a gem, that. They set about restoring it, reckoning it'd give diners something to natter about between courses.

The Edwardian walls, true to form, were about as straight as a dog's hind leg. But Fable weren't about to be outfoxed by wonky masonry. They got stuck in, marrying traditional techniques with modern wizardry to create flat surfaces for art displays, all while keeping the room's period charm intact.

Lighting proved to be the final conundrum. They conjured up some bespoke fixtures that wouldn't look out of place in the Tate, but still felt at home in the Devon hills. The pièce de résistance was a hefty light inspired by the local oak trees - clever enough to adapt to each new exhibition, much like the hotel adapting to its artsy new identity.

In the end, 'Canvas' stood as a testament to what you can do with an Edwardian dining room if you're not afraid to roll up your sleeves and think outside the box. Just another day at the office for Fable Construction, turning period rooms into talking points, one challenging space at a time.
